Phillippe Cato
Phillippe (he/him) is a dramaturg, director, and singer songwriter. He is interested in creating and developing new work that explores socially relevant and representative stories, with a focus on global majority and queer voices. As a dramaturg: HOT IN HERE (Pigfoot Theatre, UK tour); THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (ETT, Leeds Playhouse, Rose Kingston, UK tour); BOGEYMAN (Lagahoo Productions, Edinburgh Festival Fringe); AVALANCHE (R&D with Bloom Theatre); and TIGER (R&D with WoLab). Phillippe studied Music at the University of York. As a songwriter, he is currently writing a musical that explores Black, queer love in the 80s and 90s, set against the backdrop of the HIV epidemic in the UK. He is also due to record his debut EP before the end of the year. Phillippe is currently Senior Literary Associate at Royal Court Theatre. He was previously Associate Director at Theatre Peckham, New Work Associate at Paines Plough where he read for and coordinated the first two years of The Women’s Prize for Playwriting, and interned at Sadler’s Wells in the Producing & Touring team. In January 2023, Phillippe co-founded Telluric., a company with the mission to tell representative LGBTQIA+ stories and narratives from global perspectives via theatre productions. @phillippecato
