General
The Gate was founded in 1979 and is committed to telling stories beyond our borders. We are a producing theatre company working with partner venues and other collaborators to platform international voices in the UK.
The Gate is made up of a small team that work together to support artists across the year and each production brings together the best possible company of creatives for that piece of work. Atri Banerjee is the Gate’s Creative Associate and acts as the artistic lead for the Gate, leading on programming in conjunction with our Senior Producer and Executive Director & CEO, and ensuring we keep art at the heart of our strategy and business planning.
The Gate office is based at No.38 Mayton Street, London, N7 6QR. We share this space with three other theatre companies Tamasha, New Earth Theatre and Paines Plough.
The Gate Theatre was originally based in Notting Hill above the Prince Albert pub and more recently has presented seasons of work at Theatro Technis @26 Crowndale Road, Camden. We no longer run our own theatre venue so you will find venue details for each show listed on the show page on our website.
The Gate office space in Holloway has step free access and larger accessible toilets within the building.
We endeavour to present our productions in accessible spaces. Information regarding venue and physical accessibility will be listed on each show’s page.
The Gate is a charity and relies on the generosity of our supporters to continue to make ground-breaking, international theatre. There are several ways you can support.
- You can make donations at any time – donate here. Donations can also be made when you purchase tickets or any other items from the Gate.
- If you would like to support the Gate regularly, you can join our Supporter Scheme from £5 a month – find out more about becoming a Supporter.
- The Gate runs giving campaigns across the year. Over the past year this has included our GiveMatch campaign. These campaigns are posted across our social media channels, so please follow to keep up to date.
