Our rehearsal space is such a beautiful building full of many artists and creative programmes, situated on the North Side of Clapham Common. It’s beautiful when the sun is shining through our huge windows, and it’s even lovely to see the rain falling….anyway… This week, as it was the last day of term, we had little-lins with their parents participating in a festival run by Clapham Omnibus. It was inspiring being in an active building, which is hosting so many events and companies all at once, which mirrors the nature of The Iphigenia Quartet.

Iphigenia Week 2

This week, we put this script on its feet. Playing with staging as well as added detail of character and purpose in each scene. The cast have started to feel more comfortable with this piece, the arc of the play, how they move around the space and their character’s complexities. It’s been really insightful to witness the many different versions of these scenes we explored and establishing which ones read the best and, more importantly, tell the story the best. We also explored improvisation for some of the scenes to help build the character and experience of Iphigenia.

Clytemnestra Week 2

This week was about Rhythm and Language. What is the rhythm of the piece, what does it sound like as a whole? The way Lulu wrote Clytemnestra, it requires a fusion of worlds, storytelling and sharp cues. During the week, we had a lot of split calls so that Jen, the director could work on the different scenes individually, exploring the language and depth behind the words. Near the end of the week the whole cast were called together and we started to put all the scenes together. It’s been interesting to witness the actors being aware of their work in their scene as we all as the work of the other actors in the other scene and exploring how the two relate and co-exist within the same space. We were exploring staging and the physical language of the piece which we will roll on to next week with help from our amazing, Movement Director, Aline.
